RESEARCHING IS EXCITING & EDUCATIONAL
For as long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed researching stuff. Many years ago when I lived in Weymouth, I was assigned a task of researching King George III on behalf of the local authority. It was to coincide with events being arranged to celebrate the 200 years since King George III made bathing popular in the seaside town in Dorset.
In 1989 there was no internet as we know it today to use for the research, so I used the local library. Day after day I visited this quiet place and sat pawing through history books gathering information. My final presentation to the local authority was approved and much of the work was indeed used for leaflets, posters, press articles and such like. I loved doing the research and I learnt so much in the process.
Nowadays I continue to enjoy researching, and thank goodness, we have a wonderful tool we can all access easily to do so. The internet. From the comfort of our armchair we can all type in a few words into a search engine and read the findings with little effort.
Today’s speaker set me a challenge which I dutifully accepted, which you can read about in the Afterthoughts. Before we read today’s session, watch out for the incredible statement about wise men. It blew my mind when I writing this up for this edition.
