AM I RELIGIOUS IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE?
We often hold beliefs that a religious person is someone that attends church regularly. Someone that does good in their community, is law-abiding and has a strong belief in their God and shares it with pride and openness. Someone that has an outward presence of holiness about them. Someone quite the opposite to me then?
I don’t consider myself to be a religious type. Or do I? I rarely attend church these days, I swear, I have tantrums regularly, and am most certainly not always doing the things to be considered with a God-abiding person.
My path through life has been rocky, and that’s an understatement, believe me! I’ve not been a good parent to my children in the traditional sense. In fact I have many flaws as a human being. So, why on earth would I even consider myself religious?
If we’re all honest with ourselves, the truth is that we all have flaws. Nobody is a perfect person, though I often think I’m close! So I’m really no different than anyone else. Yet I have a purpose with my life, a path if you like, that I know is taking me to the same destination as everyone else. It just might not be the most direct route at times!
I’m comfortable with God. I understand his needs and desires. I know who and what that invisible and mythological force is. I’d go so far as to say I have the God element within me. I pray at least once every day, often more. I talk to that Divine force. I seek guidance, support and help in tapping into the power of God.
Do I believe every word in the Bible? Absolutely not. I do believe in the general sentiments of the words and the message it is intended to relay. I believe in my purpose though. I suppose, when I weigh everything up, yes I am more religious than many people. But I will always remain a work in progress!
Today’s topic chosen by the speaker is one that I strongly believe in - the power of prayer. When you read it, you’ll possibly recognise my own enthusiasm coming out in some of the words shared with me.
